July 8th from Logrono via Navarette, Ventosa to Najera. After Logrono is a park where Marcelino "lives" to give free walking sticks and fruits to pilgrims. He exchanged Mais walking stick for a much better one. |

arriving in Najera - we stayed in the municipal alberge which was the worst of all on the whole camino. Lets call it a chicken-cage. too many beds in a not ventiated room. Nobody could sleep for lack of air. Most people got up at 5 (as you couldnt sleep anyway) but this alberge does not open doors before 6.00. This was the worst chicken cage of the camino. But we met our good friends Laura and Tamara and Sophi, so who cares about sleeping well. And this town has a supermarket. |

July 9th Najera via Azofra, Ciruena to Santo Domingo de la Calzada At 6 finally doors open and we can leave the "cage", one hour later is sunrise. Long long walk in the summer heat to Santo Domingo staying in a good municipal alberge. Much better than the chicken cage before. They have a kitchen, so Mai can cook her favourite Spaghetti. |

July 10th from Santo Domingo de la Calzada via Granon, Redecilla de Camino, Viloria, Villamayor, Belorado to Tosantos staying in the church alberge from Tosantos |
|||
in the church alberges cooking and eating is together. We like the atmosphere and give more donation than the price of other alberges to support this system. Here in Tosantos we met many "old camino friends" again - it feels like you know them for many years. In this alberge we met Tim and Jana from Germany, both studying in the United Kingdom. |

July 11th from Tosantos via Villambistia, Villafranca Montes de Oca, San Juan de Ortega, Ages to Atapuerca, staying in an old farm house "alberge La Hutte". The nearby hotel had a great pilgrims menu for just 9 Euro including a bottle of wine.
by the way - Atapuerca is the place of the caves where the bones of the oldest man in Europe was found (from 800.000 years ago)
really good menu de pelegrinos in Atapuerca July 12th Atapuerca via Orbaneja de Riopico to Burgos. Leaving in early morning from Atapuerca as every day, as it gets really hot after noon. The real reason - cant wait to eat the delicious fried lamb in Burgos. |
|||
oh oh, a red sky at dawn means bad weather ahead. And yes, we got a thunderstorm in the evening at Burgos after reaching our alberge safely.
we try to have breakfast at 8.00 somewhere on the way. At 8.00 the bulls race in Pamplona starts (every day July 7 to 14th, San Fermin). I took a video from the TV screen but someone got badly hurt (really cruel video) so I dont put it on this webpage. If one of you is ever stupid enough to take part in the bulls race I will show you my video from July 12th first to make you change your mind.
approaching Burgos - the soft stuff on the ground looks like cotton.
